From Julie's point of view:
Jared and I were neighbors while I was in nursing school. During this time we started to build an incredible friendship. We’d spend Friday nights playing darts or Mario party together and exchanging recipes we love. We were just two people, with a great friendship, who enjoyed spending time together. Eventually, our friendship took a romantic turn. It was so easy to be in love with Jared immediately because I already knew him and how well we fit together. He was quite clearly, my other half.
But to keep things interesting, I had just finished nursing school. The problem? My dream job was taking me to Seattle. When I told Jared I was moving, he was incredibly supportive. About two months later, I was all packed up and ready to move to Seattle. Jared and I sat down and had a talk. We both agreed we didn’t really want to be in a long-distance relationship. I mean, they never work, right? But, neither of us were ready to close the door on the loving future we could see. So, we agreed to try it out, and if it didn’t work, no hard feelings. Well, it sure wasn’t easy, but two years later, Jared got down on a knee and asked me to be his wife.
Driving three and a half hours each week to be with Jared wasn’t always ideal. Thankfully, those drives are a thing of the past. This last July, Jared and I bought out first home together in Vancouver, WA. Adjusting to the rain was at times difficult for us and our now two German Shepards, Amyntas and Nala. I am thankful everyday we made the move to this beautiful, green area. I am equally grateful for Jared. In Jared, I have not only a best friend, but a fierce supporter, a comedic partner, and a wealth of unwavering love. Thank you, Jared for being you, you make me the luckiest girl in the world, I love you and I can't wait to marry you.
From Jared's point of view:
I first met Julie in June of 2017, she came to my door and introduced herself as my neighbor. I had just bought my house and was quite shocked to meet my very first neighbor, let alone a pretty one at that. Over the first two years she lived next door, we did our neighborly duties, swapping recipes and little gifts/food here and there.
In November of 2018, I bought a dartboard and little did I know that this would be the beginning of one of the best decisions I would ever make. I put the dartboard in my “creepy” cellar and began inviting my neighbor over (it’s only as bad as you make it lol). It soon became tradition that every Friday night, we were in the cellar playing darts, having a drink or two, and having fun. It became such a tradition that every Friday, by the time I got home, I had a text that read “darts?”. It was in that cellar that a friendship formed, no expectations, just two people having fun.
It was here that I learned a lot about Julie. I learned that she had the same sense of humor as I did. That she loved her family more than anything in the world. That she was loving, caring, and had a heart of gold. That she had aspirations and held herself accountable to them. That she was capable of anything she set her mind to. That she was smart and witty. That all of the things on the outside didn’t even hold a candle to what was inside. So on one fateful night, after an intense match of darts, I kissed my neighbor.
But just like all great stories, a plot twist! Julie had her heart set on a nursing experience of a lifetime and took an opportunity in Seattle almost immediately after. While we both were not fond of a long distance relationship, we agreed to try it out and see what happens. From that day on, we talked on the phone everyday for hours, despite difficult schedules. Julie commuted to the Tri-Cities on her off weeks to see me and our puppy. Through it all, we were each other’s support and as the old adage goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. What had initially started as two people seeing if it would work became two people who were bound and determined to make it work.
Fast forward through 2 years of long distance, a pandemic, career changes, another dog, a new house, and everything in between, here we are. I get to marry my best friend on 8/6/22 and I couldn’t be happier.
